The Digest
Condé Nast Traveler's 38th annual Readers' Choice Awards named Pensacola Beach the #1 beach in the United States at the end of 2025. Over 757,000 readers from around the world cast votes, and this stretch of sugar-white sand came out on top. Ahead of Waikiki, Siesta Beach, Maui, and everywhere else.
We think this brings two reactions. The first: of course. The second: uh oh. Both are understandable.
The full write-up from Condé Nast didn't just praise the sand and the water. They called out the arts and culture scene, Mural Fest, the Great Gulfcoast Arts Festival, the Foo Foo Festival, and what they described as a culinary landscape where you can tell the chefs are having fun. Navarre Beach came in at #2 on the same list. The entire stretch of coastline is getting recognized.
Spring break is already here, and the traffic data reflects the new attention. On February 28 alone, 20,000 vehicles crossed onto Pensacola Beach in a single day, according to local officials. The Escambia County Sheriff's Office added two permanent deputies to beach operations this season.
If you're heading to the beach in the next few weeks, here's the practical reality: parking fills up earlier than you might expect. The lot at Casino Beach and the paid lots near the Boardwalk tend to fill by late morning on weekends. Side streets closer to the east end of the island tend to have more space. And if you're going specifically for the Gulf the beach access points along Fort Pickens Road and near the Gulf Islands National Seashore give you more room to breathe.
The Condé Nast piece specifically mentioned that Pensacola is "so much more than its beach." A wave of first-time visitors who showed up for the beach and then wandered downtown is probably good for a lot of local businesses.

More attention means more pressure on parking, more strain on the infrastructure between Pensacola and the beach, and more development conversations that could change the character of the island over time.
Siesta Key Beach in Sarasota is the closest comparison to what Pensacola is experiencing right now. When Dr. Beach named Siesta the #1 beach in America in 2011, local tourism officials said it helped introduce the area to potential visitors nationwide and worldwide. Lodging and booking inquiries skyrocketed, one condo complex's 188 units were fully booked for four weeks in July, and web visits to the local tourism bureau jumped 47% compared to the same month the prior year. Pensacola's Visit Pensacola is already projecting a record 2026 season.
What Siesta Key also shows, though, is that the ranking never really turns off. Siesta has won best beach accolades from multiple organizations across multiple decades, Dr. Beach, TripAdvisor, and Condé Nast.
Pensacola Beach earned the ranking. The sand is genuinely unlike most places in the country. The quartz composition gives it that soft, almost powdery feel even in direct sun, and the Gulf water out here runs a shade of green that looks like someone turned up the saturation on a photograph. The ranking doesn't change what makes it worth going to. But it does mean the secret is fully out now, and this summer will likely be one of the busiest on record.
