The Digest
Backyard Sheds is the topic for this week’s digest section. I know this isn’t a typical topic but I recently purchased one and did quite a bit of research ahead of time. I thought I would pass some of those details on and share contacts for two options (these two did not ask for promotion or support the newsletter). With Spring in full swing (the equinox was March 20th) you may be wanting to clean out your own space, or get a space of your own.
My goal was storage. I needed to get lawn care and storage out of my garage to make room for workout equipment and to get a car in there if we needed. Your reason may be different: office, gardening shed, music room, etc. Determine your main reason for this space to help you clarify what you are after. There are some modern studio or office options but I figured I would just discuss wood or metal sheds (usually run from $3,300-$12,000) because those modern options can be in the $20,000-50,000.

This one is a similar style I selected
I chose a custom pre-built shed from Winston Shed Company. They sell Premier buildings that come with industry-leading warranties (50 years on the siding, 30 years on the metal roof) are available in 12 styles with 13 color options for the siding and 15 for the roof. You can either pick something directly off a lot or design a custom building using their online ShedView designer tool. Sizes run from 6x10 up to 16×54.
The advantage here is speed and simplicity. On-lot buildings can typically be delivered within 7 days of ordering, and custom-ordered buildings from the manufacturing shop typically take around 21 days. You choose what you want, they bring it and level it, and you're done. This company also sells metal carports and sheds, which I did consider but opted for wood (the metal can be cheaper)
The next option I considered was a shed built on site by a local company, MannMade Sheds. This can save you some money (no middleman and delivery costs). This is also a good option if you have a fence already up and they would have a difficult time getting a pre-built on your property.
Another benefit is customization. The big companies like Premier do have customization options on their website but having it built on site allows for custom paint colors, last-minute changes (ramp, shelves), and watching the build throughout the process. Two other upgrades I added were a solar fan to push the hot air out and an interior solar power battery light that turns on automatically at night when I walk in the shed. Both of which I picked up from Amazon.

If you're in a deed-restricted neighborhood or an HOA, check your rules before you get too far into the planning process. Setback requirements from property lines also vary by county, and they can affect how large a structure you can actually place in a given spot.
The other thing worth knowing: spring is the busy season for this industry. If you want something installed before summer, now is the time to start the conversation.

Dog and Cat of the Month
Once a month we want to share a local shelter dog and cat available for adoption.
This is Bison (A394693). He is a mixed breed, is dog friendly, and is approximately five years old. He was brought to the shelter quite a while ago and could use a good home. He is listed by the Escambia County Animal Shelter. 200 W Fairfield Dr, Pensacola, FL 32501. 850-595-3075.

This is Opal. Her feral mama showed up with 4 kittens in tow over the summer. We trapped mom and spayed her when the kittens were old enough to be weaned and fixed. Opal is a bob-tail and she is shy at first but will come around fairly quickly with treats and toys. She loves the other kittens and tries to play with the ferrets in her foster home. She enjoys the catio too. She has been around dogs and we believe with proper introduction she will be fine with chill dogs. She's spayed, ear-tipped, negative for FIV/FeLV and has been vaccinated. She is located at Navarre Ferret Rescue. [email protected]
